Performing Shakespeare, Shakespeare in Performance

About

Shakespeare’s Tribe is a blog about performing Shakespeare, and Shakespeare in performance.

What you’ll find: Notes about performing plays by Shakespeare and his contemporaries, ideas and instructions for those just learning the craft, discussions of acting and interpretation, and reviews of current productions. I love to talk about contemporary and historic performance practice, Shakespeare and media, and – just because it is fun – occasional backstage gossip.

What you won’t find: No anti-intellectual rants here about literary critics and historians as bad guys. I find many contemporary critics tremendously illuminating (Marjorie Garber and Stephen Greenblatt are current favorites) but scholarly approaches to Elizabethan and Jacobean drama are well covered on the ‘net already. This space thinks about Shakespeare as filtered through performance as an addition to, not opposition to, the literary discussion.
